YMCA is developing its activity in 119 countries and areas worldwide, with the aim to build a society where people of all religion, sex, age, and ethnic group can overcome each other's differences and live in unity. There are 34 local YMCAs and 38 student YMCAs in Japan, which develop various activities in communities and universities aiming people's lifetime holistic growth.

National Council of YMCAs of Japan is a institution which acts as a coordinator, supporter, and a delegate for all city and student YMCAs nationwide. Its role is to promote cooperation between YMCAs, to act as a contact point for YMCAs worldwide, and to advise and cultivate staff and leaders. Also, their function is to act as a coordinator for YMCAs nationwide, and as a contact point externally. These roles and functions are for registered and member YMCAs to improve their activities by sharing information. National Council of YMCAs of Japan is a member of the World Alliance of YMCAs and Asia and Pacific Alliance of YMCAs, representing National Council of YMCAs of Japan.
The World Alliance of YMCAs has had consultative status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations (UN) since 1947.

Function of National Council of YMCAs of Japan

Corporate Operation

Corporate Operation covers administration, finance, and personnel, as well as corporate management of National Council of YMCAs of Japan. It coordinates and holds various meetings such as for council members and board members, and supports public and private financial aid.

Cooperation Nationwide

As part of domestic cooperation activity, the national council contacts and advises member YMCAs, supports students YMCAs, trains YMCA expert staffs, manages licenses of instructors and volunteer members, and implement PR activities via publications. As part of international cooperation activity, the national council contacts and advises YMCAs overseas, and domestically develops International Cooperation Fundraisers, with the aim to support YMCAs with hardships overseas, and to cultivate young human resources so they could flourish their skills in the international field. Its role is also to contact Y's Men's Club which supports YMCA activities.

YMCA Foreign Community Supporting Committee (FCSC)

YMCA Foreign Community Supporting Committee is a supporting (voluntary) institution which consists of various foreign embassies and board members of foreign companies who wish to commit to the Japanese society. This committee holds charity activities which financially and mentally supports an educational program for disabled children called "Challenged Children Program", which is held in over 160 YMCAs nationwide. This committee also implements various events such as YMCA International Charity Run and charity concerts throughout the year.

International Youth Center TOZANSO

International Youth Center TOZANSO was established in 1915 at the base of Mt. Fuji, Gotenba city of Shizuoka  prefecture, as early pioneer of international youth centers in Japan. TOZANSO is located in a quiet area around the foot of Mt. Fuji, filled with green. It is an area blessed with nature, where various types of bird fly, and wildflower of all seasons bloom. TOZANSO can be used for various purposes for all age groups, such as camp sites, site for outdoor education, orientation camps for freshmen, seminar camps, club camps, and retreats for churches. TOZANSO will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2015.
